Mercedes-AMG is working on a hot electric version of the third-generation CLA, set to be released in 2025 as a formidable alternative to the CLA 45. A prototype of the new model was recently spotted testing in Sweden, sporting some notable changes from the standard CLA.
Unleashing the Power
The upcoming AMG CLA will feature uprated brakes, AMG sports wheels, and a large rear spoiler that suggests a focus on enhancing downforce. The production model may come with a fixed spoiler or even a retractable one, similar to the Mercedes-AMG GT. With a dual-motor four-wheel-drive layout, the AMG CLA aims to deliver an impressive 500bhp, surpassing the current CLA 45’s 422bhp.
Electrifying Innovations
The AMG model will utilize motors with unique windings and an advanced cooling system, differentiating it from other CLA versions. The battery will also have distinct characteristics, deviating from the standard models. Although the single-motor rear-wheel-drive CLA model is projected to have a range of over 435 miles and an economy of 5.2 miles per kWh, these figures will likely decrease with the introduction of a second electric motor and power boost in the AMG model.

Mercedes is set to release the new CLA alongside powered-up versions of the CLA Shooting Brake, GLA crossover, and GLB SUV. All of these models will share the same drivetrain and battery architecture as the upcoming CLA saloon. Additionally, AMG plans to unveil their first dedicated electric car, the production version of the Vision AMG concept, as a replacement for the V8-powered GT 63, boasting an impressive 1000bhp.
